Gotham West Market is an unexpected gem in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s little off the normal trail of Hell’s Kitchen eateries but I highly suggest making the trip over.

What is the Market all About

Upon hearing ‘market’ you might be picturing a venue more like Chelsea Market, but Gotham West Market is truly its own breed. The best way to describe it is as an upscale food court. There are 8 total food/drink vendors in the market but all are roughly designed as bars or take out counters. Some of the more popular places to grab a bite are internationally famous Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop and, the gramercy favorite, The Cannibal.

Ivan Orkin opened Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop in Gotham West Market after reaching great success in the ramen game in Tokyo. Ivan Ramen is famous for their rye noodles, which are made special for them and have a unique flavor and texture. Ivan Orkin hopes people will learn the art of the slurp at his Slurp Shop. Check out the how to guide on the menu and learn how to property down those noodles!

Across the market at The Cannibal you can choose from over 200 beers and stuff your face with cured meat! Favorites from Cannibal include their famous hotdogs 2.0 which are topped with tripe chili and hot mustard and the homemade pates are totally to die for.

Eating at Gotham West Market

The Gotham West Market has plenty of seating where people bring their laptops and work through the afternoon. With free Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets it makes for a great workspace. The entire Gotham West Market has one speaker system and I’m not sure who is in charge but even on a Wednesday at 7pm they had some great jams from the 2000s putting me in a good mood.

I could easily spend an entire day in the market and manage to have 3 wildly different dining experiences. Better yet, the prices at the market are incredibly reasonable! Gotham West Market is the perfect place to go with a friend or significant other after rounds of “I don’t care, what do you want?” Walk in, see what catches your eye, sit down and eat up.
