Tucked away discreetly on Sullivan Street in the Greenwich Village, Rockin Raw is quietly proving to be one of the best restaurants amongst the organic scene in NYC. So quiet that even the most dedicated vegan yoga master gurus in the city might not even know of it. Maybe it’s because Rockin Raw is so small and can only seat a handful. Or maybe it’s because it only recently moved to Manhattan from Brooklyn. Or maybe it’s just so good that all of its loyal customers want to keep it to themselves so it doesn’t become just another trendy instagram place. And trust me, I’m tempted to keep it a secret as well, but unfortunately it’s my job to do just the opposite. So apologies to Rockin Raw’s loyal customers in advance, because I’m about to share with all New Yorkers why they should be running to this Peruivian-Creole Raw Vegan place that is truly unlike anywhere else.

Rockin Raw Rundown

Okay maybe I’m biased because Raw Vegan food is my all time favorite cuisine. Partially because I am just so incredibly fascinated by how such delicious and exotic entrees and desserts can be created from such simple ingredients (raw veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds). And partially because everything is so unbelievably delicious!

If you’re not familiar with Raw Vegan cuisine, let me give you some background info.

The cuisine, like veganism, excludes all food and products of animal origin, as well as food cooked at a temperature above 48 °C (118 °F). A raw vegan diet includes raw vegetables and fruits, nuts and nut pastes, grain and legume sprouts, seeds, plant oils, sea vegetables, herbs, and fresh juices. In terms of health, some raw vegans believe that cooking foods destroys the complex balance of micro-nutrients. They may also believe that, in the cooking process, dangerous chemicals are produced by the heat interaction with fat, protein, and carbohydrates such as advanced glycation end-products and others.

You’re probably thinking, okay then what is there left to eat? But somehow the creative minds and chefs at Rockin Raw have come up with quite an impressive menu including everything from nachos, to burritos, and lasagna, and even a full dessert menu including cheesecakes, ice cream, cookies, and pies.
