Anthonys Place -2110 Ave X Brooklyn, NY

I am probably going to regret writing about this outstanding Italian restaurant, which is off the beaten path in Sheepshead Bay. I am sure that most of my fellow Brooklynites will want Anthonys Place to serve my head on a platter for spreading the word about them and making it even more difficult to get a reservation.  In all my years in Brooklyn I have never seen an ad for Anthony’s and I am pretty sure they don’t even have a website.  You literally have to be on the “inside” to know about this amazing gem of a place.

Anthonys Place first opened in the Bay as the Pizza Bowl in the 1940’s with recipes brought over from Italy. It is a very small and cozy restaurant. The waitresses are friendly and welcome you as if you are entering their home for dinner. The chalk board lists the day’s specials and the menu is full of mouthwatering dishes. One of my favorite appetizers is the tomato and mozzarella salad which is sprinkled with breadcrumbs and basil. If you prefer fish to salad I recommend their fried calamari or there zuppa di clams or mussels. For a main dish I usually order the shrimp scampi served over angel hair pasta sautéed in lemon butter, garlic, lemon and white wine. Their homemade ravioli stuffed with lobster or shrimp are scrumptious and you will be planning your next visit before your plate is clean. Anthonys Place also has the BEST garlic rolls I have ever eaten and they also serve a house wine that is incredible. Anthony’s is the perfect place to take a date, friend, or even a group of buddies.   Just remember to make a reservation and please don’t let anyone I know find out that I told you about it!

X Marks the spot and Anthonys Place on Avenue X is the spot!
